We Need More Men and Women Like This

From NRO:

I'm an avid reader of The Corner, and I enjoyed very much your post today, "A Call, and An answer", about the two newly-commissioned Marines who just graduated from Dartmouth. I myself am headed into my second year as an undergraduate at the University of Oxford, where I am studying Classics & English. I'm an American citizen - making my undergraduate position at Oxford relatively unusual - and even more unusually, once I'm done I plan to apply for a commission in the US Army, hopefully in the Airborne Infantry. While I have the full support of my family and closest friends in this, you can imagine the questions I often am asked from people who don't know me that well. I was hugely pleased, therefore, to come across this quotation this year from Thucydides, the father of all military history: "The society that separates its scholars from its warriors will have its thinking done by cowards and its fighting by fools."

Amen...God Bless our kids.

Jack Kemp on Taxes

Remember Kemp-Roth? If you do, you're as old as I am (sigh). Here's what Kemp and Peter Ferrara have to say about taxes that Obama has proposed:

Obama has proposed increases in every major federal tax. He has proposed to increase individual income taxes, with the top rate to rise to almost 40 percent. He has proposed to increase the top capital-gains tax rate by 33 percent. He has proposed the same for the top tax rate on dividends. He has proposed to increase payroll taxes, with a rate increase of 16 percent to 32 percent for workers earning over $250,000 a year. He has proposed to reinstate the death tax (estate tax), now phasing out under current law, with a top rate of 45 percent. He has proposed several increases in corporate taxes, including a so-called windfall-profits tax on oil.

Nobel Prize-winning economist Robert Mundell has written that if such tax increases are adopted, the U.S. economy will suffer “a deep recession, a nosedive,” and the dollar will decline further. Amity Shlaes, author of The Forgotten Man: A New History of the Great Depression, claims Obama has proposed the exact same policy mix that led to the depression of the 1930s. (emphasis mine) During the primaries, Obama railed against free trade, proposing even to renegotiate free-trade agreements with our top two trading partners, Canada and Mexico. He has opposed the Columbian Free Trade Agreement, even though it primarily removes tariffs on American exports to that country, with barriers to Columbian exports to America already almost all removed under the Andean Trade Preferences Act.
In an earlier post, I said only morons would vote for Obama. Morons and those that wish to be poor.

Ayers the Terrorist and Obama

Here's a great ad that hits at the heart of Obama and his ties to AMERICAN TERRORISTS:

More Americans need to wake up about this tool. If one of your friends admitted to bombing police stations and the Pentagon, he would become radioactive in the neighborhood. You wouldn't have anything to do with him.

Will Obama offer him a night in the Lincoln bedroom, allowing him to get explosives into the White House? Remember: Ayers said he "didn't do enough".

DNC is Incompetent - DUH

Here are pictures of the credentials for the Democratic Convention.

Notice that the American Flag is upside down...signaling distress.

Now, I really don't think that the DNC wants that message on their passes. I'll bet one of the staffers designed it that way, wondering if it would make it through the review process. The fact that this made it to the printer, and past the proofing process, means the DNC staff is a bunch of losers. What do you expect with the serial screamer at the helm?

We Should Have Boycotted the Olympics

Shawn Johnson...Gold Medal Winner and all-around cutie. Here's a pic from her website.

Costas interviewed her tonight after she won her Gold Medal. She was wearing the old 'peace sign' earrings. (I'll put a pic up as soon as NBC puts it up on their website.)

Now, I recall what a big disappointment it was for many athletes when we boycotted the Olympics in 1980. So many had trained so hard, and Carter said "no". And there were calls to boycott the Games in Peking this year. A lot of people said, "don't politicize the Olympics", and "it's not fair to the athletes...just let them compete".

We can't have it both ways. If this 16-year-old is going to pull this crap, then we should have boycotted the games. The real pity here is that she's being manipulated by her parents and/or her coach.

We DAMN sure shouldn't go to ANY Olympics in Russia. Let's announce it now, so that those who may want to train won't be surprised.

McCain v Obama

Watch this summary of the Saddleback forum. It's quick, honest, and...well, if you vote for Obama after watching this, you are a complete idiot.

Straight up: You are a moron if you vote for Obama.

Favre Mania

Being from Dallas, I'm a Cowboy fan, and bleed blue, just like folks up here in Wisconsin bleed green. I just don't care about this entire Favre controversy. However, there is an interesting parallel here that I do think is entertaining.

Recall when Coach Tom Landry was fired by Jerry Jones? I'll tell you...we hung Jones in effigy in Dallas, and I do think that if Jerry had gone out in public, he would have been beaten. We thought he was a dumb, rich hick from Arkansas (hell, we STILL think that) with a bunch of oil money, and how DARE he disrespect our GOD LANDRY. Worse, Coach Landry learned that he was fired from a reporter who found Landry playing golf and asked him how it felt. Landry had no idea that his firing was coming, let alone announced, but he was a class act (as usual) and said that Jones owned the team and could do as he wished.

(Starr and Landry -- Two Class Acts)

This all comes to mind as friends up here work themselves into a frenzy about Favre's trade to the Jets. It's all over the TV, newspapers, blogs, and is the topic of every conversation in the bars and restaurants.

As I said, I don't really care about the Favre trade. But for those of you that thought Coach Landry's firing was no big deal...see how it feels? A dumb-ass club president pulling a dumb-ass move. History repeats itself.

O-Bueller? O-Bueller?

We're greeted today with the news that Obama won't participate in any townhall meetings after the convention and before the election. Obama is agreeing to 3 debates, but no townhalls.

I suggest McCain continue with his series of townhall meetings. He should include a life-size cutout of Obama on stage with him. It would be very effective if McCain would respond to a question, then turn to the cutout and say, "What's your answer, Senator? O-Bueller? O-Bueller?"
