The Fall of Detroit

Here's a pretty telling graphic:

Since I'm from Dallas, and THE BOSS is from Detroit, she's a bit depressed about this. I am not surprised. During our last big recession in the mid-80's, the joke going around was that there were more Michigan license plates than Mexicans in Texas. Not so true any more.

On the bright side, if you have cash or good credit with the ability to borrow, now is a great buying opportunity for real estate. THE BOSS has been looking at homes over in Grosse Pointe (Detroit's Highland Park) and you can get some great deals there. We're going to head over in a few weeks to take a look.

H/T Moonbattery for the graphic

What?!? De-Troy-it? Granted, I've only been to the old Silverdome in Pontiac (Cowboys vs Lions, me carrying beers vs stadium seats), so my knowledge of socio-economic & demographic conditions there is limited. But my uninformed impression of the H-P of Detroit, however upscale it might be, is something akin to Knob Hill in San Francisco -- surrounded by undesireables and under constant threat of catastrophe! Besides, "Texan in Michigan" just doesn't have the same ring to it...

Well, as I recall, after a drunken flight from DFW to Detroit, and a few beers with Jim, it was more of the beer carrying YOU over that row of seats.

But, to your eternal credit, you did a 1/2 twist without spilling a drop. So you've got that going for ya.
