Rush v Obama (hint: Rush Wins)

The DNC ran a contest for the best billboard to criticize Rush Limbaugh.
The winner:

And several folks have thought that the above billboard may be more of a winner for Rush than for Obama. Nevertheless, here's a good answer to the above billboard:

When will Howard Dean and Donna Brazile realize that they've screwed the pooch on this one?

Deficits Forever!

The US Treasury (UST) has a Financial Management Service (FMS) which released the current projections for Federal Budget Deficits (FBD) for the next ten years (NTY).

OMG!

Over at The Corner, Veronique de Rugy points out:

...according to Obama’s own ten-year deficit projections (see chart), a New Era of Responsibility produces bigger deficits every single year than during the Bush years: $1.75 trillion in 2009 to $533 billion by 2013 — this budget projects higher deficits in 2014 ($570 billion), 2015 ($583 billion), and 2016 ($637 billion). In 2019, the final year in the budget, the deficit is projected to be $712 billion.
See what Hope and Change (HAC) gets ya? Well FMR.

Airlines fight new Baggage Rules

Gee, here's a surprise. From Aviation Week.

Airlines Oppose Baggage Proposal

Mar 9, 2009

Airlines are concerned by strong signals from House lawmakers that they want to institute new penalties to compensate passengers for delayed bags.

Language was added to the House reauthorization bill requiring the Government Accountability Office to study the issue of baggage delays, and report back within 180 days. GAO would be directed to “make recommendations for establishing minimum standards to compensate a passenger in the case of an unreasonable delay in the delivery of checked baggage.”

The bill says GAO should “take into account the additional fees for checked baggage” introduced by many airlines, and how these fees “should improve an air carrier’s baggage performance.”

The Air Transport Association said it opposes the baggage compensation language. “It is unreasonable to expect an airline to incur costs for delayed bags when the vast majority of delays are driven by factors beyond the airline’s control…Imposing penalties on baggage delivery performance will increase the cost of handling checked baggage,” ATA says. Bag delays can be caused by weather delays, congested ramps and “limitations on baggage claim area capacity.”

ATA believes it is “impractical” to try to establish a uniform standard for baggage delivery. The group notes that ramp and terminal configurations “vary widely” at different airports, and this is a big factor in the time it takes to get bags from the aircraft to the terminal.

I'll tell you this. It's a bunch of bs that we have to pay $15-$25 to check a freaking bag. I'm all for an airline going a la carte for their charges. But the airlines implemented the baggage charges when oil went to $140/bbl. And they prohibit you from carrying these bags on...so it's crap that they make you check a bag and then charge for it.

I have over 2.5 million miles on Delta, so I travel a little bit. I'm tired of paying this stupid fee. But if the airline is going to charge us for checking and delivering the bag, the least they could do is pay some penalties out of that free money they're getting. Or maybe they could just deliver the damn bag on time.

Screw the Norks -- Call their Bluff

From Fox News just now:

N. Korea Threatens War if 'Satellite' Is Shot Down

North Korea says any attempt to intercept satellite launch — which many fear is a missile test disguise — 'will mean war' and orders its military to 'be fully combat ready.'

Well, I say it's high time we put this moron out of our misery. Shoot down their shot, then nuke his ass. I'm sick and tired of his BS and let's just take him out now -- the sooner the better.

TRUMPS

Whatever you want to call Frum, I call him a dumb ass. He doesn't like Rush Limbaugh -- ok, that's his right. But here's what he said in the latest Newsweek:
But do the rest of us understand what we are doing to ourselves by accepting this leadership? Rush is to the Republicanism of the 2000s what Jesse Jackson was to the Democratic party in the 1980s.
Rush as Jackson? Holy Mother of God. Jesse is a race-baiting, Jew-hating extortionist. Rush is a leader with great conservative ideas.

Jesse can kiss my ass -- so can Frum. I'd kiss Rush's ring.
New bumper sticker: "Rush Speaks for ME!".

Now, just so you don't worry about me - I don't subscribe to Newsweek, and don't read it. But I saw this quote and couldn't let it go.

Sharia law in Minnesota

Oh boy. Un-freaking-believable. Not only have banks over in Minneapolis/St Paul come up with lending programs for Muslims, now the State of Minnesota is getting into the act. From Hot Air blog:
How does it work? The state buys the home and then sells it to the buyer at an inflated price, more or less masking the market interest rate as principle. They they set a 30-year payment schedule where the family pays down the debt, but without any interest. The state makes a profit eventually, and people get to buy homes rather than rent.
If you read the comments from the original post, they bring up all the questions that I had. Number 1 problem: When they default, the State of Minnesota (that means the taxpayers) are on the hook. The other biggie for me: What happens when the wife comes in to sign the loan documents and she's covered head to toe, and you can't see her face? How do you know it's really her? Most banks I know won't let you in the door with your face covered. Think about it: if you're there to rob the bank, the cameras usually get a good pic of your mug. But if you have a burka on? Not so much.

This is a bunch of bullshit. This is how we got in this mess in the first place! Keep the government out of the loan market, for heaven's sake.

Judith Miller, Useful Idiot

On Friday's Special Report with Bret Baier, the analysts were discussing the classless gifts that Obama gave Gordon Brown. A CD set of 25 movies? Not to mention that Brown is blind in one eye and impaired in the other. As the panel discussed whether the gift to Brown was less than appropriate, Miller had her say. Always a study in Emily Post etiquette, Judith Milller:

"What have they done for us lately?"

You have to love Charles Krauthammer, who shot back:

"They have fought and died with us in Iraq."

Judith Miller should be given the prize for best guest: an anvil and a push off into the Potomac. Certainly Fox should drop her.

Obama and his lack of (you name it)

From THE BOSS:

This man in the White House seems to forget he is living in the "People's" White House.

For him to return the bust of Winston Churchill is a slap to the face of every British subject. The article of justification in the London Telegraph only shows Obama is making this personal and forgetting that the White House and everything in it represents "all the people" of this country. Not just him and his ancestors.

Obama is lacking in Diplomatic Etiquette, to say nothing of his table manners. This man should be ashamed of himself and his staff for not knowing how to handle diplomatic protocol when dealing with foreign dignitaries.

As a citizen of this country I am ashamed as to how Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his wife were treated while in this country and I apologize to them.

Some may argue that this “is no big deal” but pile onto that his wife’s lack of table manners, his lack of military protocol, his flat out dumbness in the area of gift giving to foreign visitors of the people's White House shows him and his family for what they are, which is Little Leaguers trying to pitch in the majors.

Where I'm from, we'd call someone like this "white trash". -- TiW

It's not Business, it's PERSONAL

Here's what the London Daily Telegraph says about the return of the Churchill bust:
The London Telegraph attempted an explanation: "Churchill has less happy connotations for Mr. Obama than those American politicians who celebrate his wartime leadership. It was during Churchill's second premiership that Britain suppressed Kenya's Mau Mau rebellion. Among Kenyans allegedly tortured by the colonial regime included one Hussein Onyango Obama, the President's grandfather."
And here's what I say...Mr. President, you are the President of the entire USA, not just for yourself. You dishonor all of us when you show a lack of good manners and insult our greatest ally.

How would we react if McCain had been elected and then decided to kick the ambassador from Vietnam out of the country? Or if Hillary had been elected (shudder) and she cut off all financial aid to any family named Lewinsky? We'd call it petty, and we'd be mad as hell that the President put personal feelings ahead of the good of the nation.

I suspect that the President didn't even watch any of the 25 movies he gave to Gordie.

Your Tax Dollars At Rest -- House of Representatives

Let's see...on Tuesday of this week, while the Senate was debating the Omnibus Spending Bill, which funds the government until the end of Sept, I wonder what was going on in the House? Were they getting together and trying to figure out how to compromise with the Senate so that the funding would get passed faster? No... Were they trying to figure out ways to lower your taxes and decrease spending? Haha, nope.

Here's what the morons in the House were working on.

If you can't read what I've highlighted, let me give you the summary:

1. Honoring the life and service of Dr William Spoelhof, President Emeritus of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. ( I know where it is, thank you.)
2. "Congratulating the University of Mary Washington in Fredricksburg, VA (like I don't know where the school is, duh) for more than 100 years of services and leadership in the United States."
3. Recess from 1.05 to 3.31 (did they go out and play on the swingset at the White House?)
4. Revolutionary War and War of 1812 Battlefield Protection Act.
5. Civil War Battlefield Preservation Act of 2009. (Now THIS I can get behind.)
6. Designating March 2, 2009 as "Read Across America Day". (Hurray! Let's set aside a day to READ THE SPENDING BILL!)
7. Commending the University of Southern California Trojan football team for its victory in the 2009 Rose Bowl. (Hmmm...did the House just get around to watching this on TIVO? Maybe that's what they were doing during recess...)

You get my point, I hope. You think I want them working on the budget? Hell, no, I'm GLAD they're doing this. Just think...the more time they spend watching Trojans, the less time they spend, well, SPENDING MY MONEY!

Morons...the lunatics are running the asylum.

WSJ: Why Golf Is Sacred to Wall Streeters

Well, the Wall Street Journal has its own opinion (and those of others) about why golf is so important to the big boys on Wall Street. There is a slightly different reason that golf is important to middle-America's salespeople.

When else can you get 5 uninterrupted hours with a customer or potential customer? It's hard enough getting on people's calendars for an hour, especially if they are VP level and higher in an organization. If you can get them on the golf course, you can build a relationship and get to know them. Also, you can talk about the politics and process behind solving a customer's problems -- a key way to get to the sale.

This is why golf is approved on expense accounts.

Anyone want to guess what course this pic is from?
I took the picture from the 19th hole.

Jim Calhoun, UConn Coach

I'm thinking he's not a Democrat. Good for him!

I sure wish a few corporate execs would stand up to Congress like this. The idea that the government should set salary caps, for instance, is absolute crap. And Calhoun makes a perfect point...he brings in $12 million in profits to UConn. If you pay $500k for a CEO of a $500 million business, you're gonna get crap leadership. CEO's that can run that size of a business are worth far more than that. But that's my opinion -- and my opinion doesn't count any more than the government's opinion on this subject. The STOCKHOLDERS get to make this decision.

Can I get a seat near the window?

Southwest Airlines has inked a deal with Sports Illustrated and put a picture of their Swimsuit Issue cover model on one of their 737's. Here's a picture:

I think this is good marketing. Unfortunately, some are saying it's "soft porn" and don't appreciate being "forced" to fly on the plane. If they fly on Shamu are they abusing a whale? Don't let PETA know. Hint: here's Shamu:

First of all, give me a break. Second, did we lose all of our sense of humor when we put Obama in the White House? Geez. No one is forcing anyone to fly on that plane. If you don't like it, don't fly on Southwest. Period. The idea that they are being "forced" to fly on that plane is crazy...no one put a gun to their heads and forced them to buy the ticket.

Southwest is based in my hometown - Dallas. They are fantastically successful. Two stories about Southwest for you.

1. When I was in college, we could fly on a student fare from San Antonio to Dallas for $7 each way. Even at 45 cents a gallon for gas, you couldn't drive it for that.

2. Southwest has a long history of great marketing. They cemented their relationship with the travelling salesmen of Texas by offering a free bottle of booze with each flight. Seriously...if you flew during the day, and paid the peak time fare instead of the off-peak fare, you could pick up a bottle of vodka, gin, bourbon, or scotch right in the jetway as you got off the plane. Every businessman in Texas who travelled between Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, and Houston flew on those flights. Later they expanded throughout Texas, including Lubbock and Amarillo, and the rest is history.

Anyway, that was a ramble. But get over the issue of the swimsuit model. Let's worry about how much Obama is going to take us down the tubes...soon you won't be able to fly without getting a permit from Obama showing that Southwest bought carbon offsets. Now THAT'S scary.

"Cap and Trade" as "Pay & Pay"

This from The Corner:

“Electricity Rates Would Necessarily Skyrocket” [Yuval Levin]

If anyone has any doubt that a cap and trade system will raise the cost of electricity for American consumers, here is a video of Barack Obama (from a conversation with San Francisco Chronicle editors in January of 2008) clearing it up:

Under my plan of a cap and trade system electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket, even, you know, regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad, because I'm capping greenhouse gases, coal powered plants, you know, natural gas, you name it, whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.

Why he understands this for "carbon taxes" and not for any other taxes is beyond me.

But don't take the Obamesiah's word for it...oh, yeah, maybe you should, since it's on tape.
