The Kid in Black

Wow! This kid, Vince Mira, can sing! Although he doesn't really sound that much like Cash, he can hit the low notes. This is a song that I always sang as a kid -- you probably didn't know that I sang bass in the White Rock Lake Tacklebox Choir (about the same age as this youngster). This performance reminded me of another youngster hitting the charts - LeAnn Rimes. Her hit "Blue" was written by Bill Mack for Patsy Cline. Patsy never got to sing it...she died in a plane crash in 1963. Bill Mack kept it in a drawer until 1996 when he heard about a young girl with a great voice. You got it...LeAnn. Mack was a DJ in Ft Worth at WBAP, and Rimes had moved to the Dallas area (whisper "Garland") in 1988.

Let's hope Vince has a great story to tell his grandkids.

Here's Vince singing "Ring of Fire". This kid is going places.

The WRLT Choir's repertoire of Statler Bros was infinitely superior, especially during the downhill leg of an Oklahoma beer run! Thanks for the memory and the chuckle...
